What should suppliers be doing on the e-procurement front?

While e-procurement is only in its infancy at present, significant developments are expected in Ireland and Northern Ireland in the next 2-3 years.

At this stage suppliers should be monitoring what is happening in the market sectors, particularly at Government and Utility levels.

Issues which should be considered by suppliers in preparation for e-procurement are:

  • E-mail facilities
  • Websites
  • Cataloguing
  • Participation in pilot programmes
  • Ability to tender electronically
  • Ability to receive orders electronically
  • Ability to receive payments electronically
